This course was developed in collaboration with Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary, the Department of Natural Resources and Environment Tasmania (formally DPIPWE) and WIRES Inc.

Aims and Objectives:
  • To understand the role and responsibilities of a wildlife rehabilitator in Tasmania
  • To understand WHS risks involved in rescuing, transporting and rehabilitating injured and orphaned wildlife
  • To introduce best practice foundation skills for rehabilitation of mammals
  • To familiarise participants with the complexities of rehabilitating Brushtail possums, Bennetts wallabies and Pademelons
Course Format:

Work through the course in order of the lessons and topics as they are numbered.

This course is broken up into 2 components (Theory + Practical Workshop):

  • Theory –  Click on the tiles below to access each of the theory lessons. You must complete all theory lessons and associated quizzes before you can reserve a place into the practical workshop. 
  • Workshop – Following the completion of the online theory component, all participants are required to complete a half day practical workshop as part of this course. You can book a spot into one of the workshops or place yourself on a waitlist, all in topic 9.2 of this course. Please Note: The workshop sign up area will only become available once all of the theory lessons and quizzes are complete. Enrolments will be closed at 4pm the Friday before a scheduled workshop.

Assessments: Students must achieve a 100% pass grade in all of the quizzes in order to pass this course. Students will be provided with unlimited attempts for each quiz and the answers can be found in the associated theory lesson. If you are having difficulty with the quizzes, please reach out to us for further assistance. 

Enrolment period: 

The enrolment period for this course, inclusive of completing the online theory and workshop component, is 12 months.
